Hi , may I ask because I am confused of the 2 different Dr statement 1 Dr said that if you have CHF , edema etc your surgery survival rate is low. 2nd Dr wants to wait and see meaning waiting until the valve is unrepairable then thats surgery time. Thank you in advance

for mitral valve repair, is a general thoracic surgeon all right? or should the patient insist on cardiologist? I was referred to a dr. for mitral valve repair by my cardiologist. the thing that stood out to me is that the dr. is a "general thoracic surgeon". I wonder if I should be seeing a more specialized dr. The dr. does work out of a clinic that calls itself a cardiovascular clinic, and the actual surgery is done at a major hospital. The valve is described as "very repairable". The doctor seems to not be coming up with the same answers as actual cardiologists. for example he claims my situation is not urgent at all, even though the prolapse is now classified as severe. He also states that I can do any exercises I want, including weight lifting, when multiple cardiologists have told me that I should avoid weight lifting, pushups, situps, lifting heavy weights, etc. The doctor plans on doing a minimaly invasive repair, from side of chest, going between ribs. Not the mitral clip, that does not last. That seems good, but I have some doubts.

I’m 64 and had my aortic valve and part of my aorta replaced April 10th @ Mayo Clinic Rochester MN. (congenital bicuspid, stenosis) I told them that I intend to follow in my father’s footsteps and live to be a hundred. They said that a mechanical valve would be my best choice as they last the longest. Feel great, looking 👀 forward to returning to work July 8th. No rhythm issues. Valve is loud though. My wife has nicknamed me “Thumper”. Dr Malaki L. Shrestha, M.B.B.S.

All of these videos by expert surgeons say go to a mitral valve specialist center for repair if possible. It's not something to mess around with a mitral valve that is not as common as other heart valve problems. My cardiologist said it's not complex surgery.

Is there any way you can tell me more about other ways of closing the sternum besides wires? "Sternal fixation system" was the term the fine doctor used. Edit: okay, I have found considerable info on UA-cam! There are plates; there are "fibrous [- I forgot the name. Stringlike, strong, flat bands, non-metallic]": they look amazing. Still have to tie knots but they lie flatter, won't Poke Up into my skin: I'm 5' and weigh 100 lbs. I'm two years out of my sternotomy and the wires are bothering me (mostly emotionally; mild irritation). It's too late now, but I wonder if there was something else that could have been done. I'm thinking of having them removed, which is why I found this video. Now that I learned more, I wonder why plates weren't used. They look fantastic. Maybe it's because I needed a longer cut and maybe they're only used for shorter incisions. I don't know. Maybe my insurance wasn't good enough. Well, sorry to bother you if anyone actually read this! Thank you for a fantastic video and getting to hear a doctor who sounds truly wonderful.

So my Björk-Shiley mechanical valve is working for 50yrs since then, and still working good. Recently I'm getting to worry about, " Will this valve last for the rest of my life? for 10, 20yrs more? Or when will I have to have the re-replacement surgery? it is said the second time surgery is riskier than the first time, moreover, getting older physically.... "

I'm a 49 yr old female who just had my left mitral valve replaced with a mechanical one 9 days ago in Calgary, AB, Canada. I had had strep throat at about age 9 and apparently didn't get the right antibiotic or didn't get it fast enough. It became Rheumatic Fever! I was diagnosed 2nd week of February, 2024; after meeting my cardiologist for the first time, he admitted me to hospital. I stayed over 2 weeks. I was dying of heart failure - yes, at 49. The surgery was 6 hours and the first few days afterwards I was in some amazing pain. After a 5 day stay at Foothills Hospital, Calgary, I was sent home. It's still early days but each day I am feeling better with less pain. Oddly enough, at age 41 I was diagnosed with a left frontal lobe meningioma! I haven't been the same since. - my brother says every once in awhile, "Hey! There's my Sister!" I also suffer daily migraines since the surgery. So, with that I think it's up to me to write and star in a 1 woman play of OZ: no brain, no heart Et cetera! :D I would recommend this surgery to EVERYONE! I might have been the youngest on the ward & started to turn around the fastest but even the Hubert's & Gladys' were chugging right along behind me. Fear not. Trust God & Trust your surgical team. They're rock stars! My heart clicks like a Rolex now & I'm no longer dying of heart failure! Cheers!

Guys, I am an extremely anxious and nervous person. And as incredible as it seems until 4 weeks ago I was perfectly fine, I had nothing. On April 20th, early in the morning, I woke up with tremendous palpitations, already feeling panicked and short of breath. I left the room and went to the living room in despair, thinking I was dying. A discomfort that I wouldn't wish on anyone. Afterwards, these panic attacks no longer happened the way they did, but as the days went by I felt fatigue, difficulty breathing normally and the palpitations continued. I went to the doctor and he ordered echo and Holter exams. As I am extremely anxious and fearful, I went to check the echo exam and found mild aortic valve insufficiency and mitral valve prolapse. Now the way I am I can't have peace anymore, I'm always anxious and thinking I'm going to die. I'm Brazilian and I've seen several videos of doctors saying it's nothing serious, but I've been feeling tired and constantly short of breath. Oh I don't know, I didn't want to be the way I am, I suffer for everything.

It feels like I have something in my lung ie I cough a lot which helps. The shortness of breath stops when I stop walking. It's so annoying. I've alerted my Doctor and he sent me for a CT Scan. And a Ultra Sound. But the NHS is so slow. Any help would be grateful. X

Vitamin K2 (MK7) + D3 will naturally take calcium out of the soft tissue where it doesn't belong and place it into the bones and teeth where it does. Common diets generally do not contain a lot of foods that contain a lot of Vit K2. That's why calcification is a common problem. Also, stay away from calcium supplements, especially calcium carbonate as they have the opposite effect of Vit K2 and cause soft tissues to become more stiff. you can get enough calcium from foods. If you want to decalcifiy, take a Vit K2 (MK7) + D3 supplement.
